Books i have read or am currently reading

1) "Now You Know: The Book of Answers"
A book the discusses the reason many things are done the way there are now. It looks like an interesting book that might answer so many questions that i might have or i have never even though about myself. Am really keen on reading this book, i hope i can locate it in the central library or else i'll have to take desperate measures by going to the book store and reading it there.

2) "Dude, Where's My Country?"
Now that's a good book i must say, it tells you what the
Bush administration is secretly doing behind our backs, the dirty politics going on. Some of the issues brought up in the book really broke my heart, to be specific is the gun control policy. The U.S. erases the history of person's who possess guns in after 3 days of purchase letting leaving the people vulnerable to attacks and the government wouldn't know who it belongs to. The real irony comes down to how the black man gets the gun, the white people buy the gun and the black man steals it and then sells it in the black market in return he will use this gun and bust a cap on a fellow black brother. As far the goverment knows the black guy got the gun one way or the other without worrying who the original owner of the gun was. Because it is not reasonable to say a black man will be buy a desert eagle which cost a good grand while he's on welfare, so he had to have gotten off the black market. The U.S. government removes the white people's blame on the problem because there is not written or legal paper giving name of the white guy who originally owns it because it has been erased from the database.

3) "The Pleasure of Slow Food: Celebrating Authentic" Traditions, Flavors and Recipes

Am not so sure what this book is about totally, but i thought it might help since i wanted to learn how to cook, know some quick recipes for now and perhaps for college when i move.

4) "Guns, Germs and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies" I've been to the bookstore to read this book a couple of times, if you do have a passion for Ancient History, this an excellent book in my opinion. It is surely very insightful and in depth, i must say. It asks questions that we don't usually think about but i rather interesting question that knowing the answer to them is quite debatable and requires a little more extensive research. It goes as to ask why farming developed in some areas of the world earlier than others even though the climate was suitable for farming, did that mean some people were smarter than others or did it really depend on the condition that led to certain civilizations coming up with farming earlier than others. These questions i thought were very thought provoking indeed and i did read and i did see the reason or atleast the possible reasons rendered by the book for occurrence of such events in history.

5)"Culture of Fear: Why Americans are Afraid of the Wrong Things"

Don't know really, no clue, i liked the title and looked like something i would be interested in reading. LoL :)

6) While Canada Slept: How We Lost Our Place in the World

7) A B S O L U T E L Y A M E R I C A N

8) "failing our kids"

A book i heard about while watching television show, i thought it would be fascinating to see how educational systems vary between U.S. and Canada. What were the fundamental principles or concepts that children need to learn during the school years. The reason i felt compelled to read this book is not other than comparing and knowing what is best for my children, what they require so i can try to provide them with the best education possible.

9) "primal teens"
By the way, the lengthy description before isn't my writting, i wish i could write such high level of english but that will have to wait. I was feeling lazy so i decided to copy the book synopsis from the net. I felt it would be necessary for all of those reading my updates to know a little bit of the book, so it would be more than fair to know that book is about and see why am interested in it and why u might possibly be interested in it as well. So enjoy. I sure enjoyed writing this update surprisingly. I have been recently very lazy to even write in my journal but school started i feel its back to work and i must try to stimulate my brain as much possible by writing and reading more and thats exactly what am doing. Feels so good. YAHOOOOO!!

A mother paces the living room waiting for her sixteen-year-old son to come home hours past his curfew. When he finally saunters in, he answers every question with a blank stare, dashes to his room, and slams the door. The mother, stunned and angry, thinks “It’s just hormones, right?”

Wrong. While raging hormones and an inclination toward rebellion are major players in the teenage drama, an area north of the gonads is directing the show: the brain. In The Primal Teen, Barbara Strauch examines the cutting-edge scientific discoveries that are providing vital new information about what makes teens tick.

Until recently, scientists believed the brain had largely finished its development by the teenage years. But breakthrough research by leading neuroscientists now shows that the adolescent brain is an intensely busy work-in-progress, transforming some sections, radically pruning the synaptic connections, while strengthening those connections that remain. This immense “rewiring” project provides new clues to explain the swift mood changes, out-of-character responses and reactions, and even the acts of sheer stupidity that have puzzled parents throughout history. Strauch not only sheds new light on these breakthrough findings, she shows how understanding the basis of teenage behavior can lead the way to a saner and smoother relationship between parents and their kids. Through interviews with scientists, teenagers, parents, and teachers, she explores common challenges — why teens can be so articulate and mature one day and so morose the next, why they engage in risky behavior, and why some kids struggle while others bloom — and offers practical strategies to help parents and kids manage these often difficult years.

The Primal Teen is a major step forward in deciphering and responding to the moody metamorphosis all teenagers go through.
